Therapeutic Approach

I offer compassionate awareness in our interactions, and try to support it in my clients. Such an orientation can be a radical departure from a 'normal' mode of being in conflict with experience. As the habitual 'war' with experience subsides, curiosity can become a driving force in a process of healing and transformation. Changes such as the alleviation of anxiety, hopelessness or relationship stress are viable objectives in therapy.  However, my experience has been that the most effective therapy is imbued with attitudes of compassion and curiosity. As compassionate curiosity  develops, emotional change and concrete change often happen. One can come into greater contact with life and with a sense of vitality.  Sometimes the difficult emotions diminish, other times they move and change. Often one develops a greater ease with emotion and with experience in general. As we let go of the struggle against experience,  authentic strength and sense of possibility can  develop.

I am inspired and informed by several frames of reference:

Mindfulness/ Buddhism

A Relational Approach

An Existential Orientation

A Social/ Political Perspective
